Welcome to Ekegusii — a platform dedicated to the preservation, documentation, and celebration of the Ekegusii language and Abagusii culture. By accessing or using this platform, you agree to the following Terms of Use. Please read them carefully.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By visiting, browsing, or contributing to the Ekegusii platform, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the platform.

2. Purpose of the Platform

The Ekegusii platform exists solely to document and promote the Ekegusii language, proverbs, cultural practices, and heritage of the Abagusii community. It is a non-commercial, public-interest cultural resource open to all.

3. User Contributions

We welcome contributions of words, phrases, proverbs, and corrections from the public. By submitting a contribution, you agree that:

  • The content you submit is accurate and authentic to the best of your knowledge.
  • You are not submitting content that belongs to someone else without their permission.
  • You grant the Ekegusii platform a perpetual, royalty-free licence to use, display, and share your contribution for cultural and educational purposes.
  • Your contribution may be edited for clarity or accuracy before publication.
  • Submissions that are offensive, hateful, false, or irrelevant will be declined without notice.

4. Intellectual Property

All original content on the Ekegusii platform — including page designs, editorial text, illustrations, and compiled databases — is the property of the Ekegusii project and is protected under applicable Kenyan intellectual property law.

Cultural content such as proverbs, traditional vocabulary, and oral heritage belongs to the Abagusii community at large. Our role is to document and preserve, not to claim ownership over communal cultural heritage.

You may not reproduce, scrape, redistribute, or commercialise content from this platform without written permission.

5. Acceptable Use

When using this platform, you agree not to:

  • Submit false, misleading, or fabricated language or cultural content
  • Use the platform to harass, defame, or harm individuals or communities
  • Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the platform
  • Use automated tools (bots, scrapers) to extract content in bulk
  • Use the platform for commercial purposes without prior written consent
  • Introduce malware, spam, or any code that disrupts the platform

6. Content Moderation

All contributions are reviewed by our moderation team before being published. We reserve the right to approve, decline, or edit any submission at our sole discretion. Declined contributions will not be published, and contributors may be notified by email where an email address was provided.

7. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Ekegusii platform is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. While we strive for accuracy, we cannot guarantee that all content is error-free. Language is living and evolving — meanings, spellings, and usage may vary across regions and generations within the Abagusii community.

We are not liable for any decisions made based on content found on this platform.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by Kenyan law, the Ekegusii platform and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of — or inability to use — this platform.

10. Governing Law

These Terms of Use are governed by the laws of the Republic of Kenya. Any disputes arising from use of this platform shall be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of Kenya.
